Since 2020 new viruses and diseases are being discovered almost every month.Kerala which was suffering from food poisoning earlier this year is now suffering from a flu called the tomato flu or Tomato fever.

Tomato flu is a rare viral disease, which causes red-coloured rashes and blisters, skin irritation, high fever, body and joint pain, fatigue and dehydration. The disease gets its name from the blisters it causes in the skin, which look like small tomatoes. Like other cases of flu, tomato fever can also spread from one person to another and If someone is infected with this flu, they need to be kept alone as this could spread rapidly from one person to another. The tomato flu is affecting children below the age of five in Kerala. More than 80 children are affected by the disease so far and all the cases have been reported fromKollam district in Kerala. Health officials have warned that the virus could spread further if preventive measures are not taken. According to the healthcare department, to prevent this flu from spreading further First and foremost, cleanliness and hygiene should be maintained. Consumption of water in a good quantity is also advised and parents should immediately consult a doctor in case any of the above-mentioned symptoms are visible in the child. Moreover the Infected children should avoid scratching rashes or blisters as it will only make it worse. However till now this flu has only been detected in Kerala, Tamilnadu government is also seen taking preventive measures as a  team of health and police officials have been deployed at the checkpost located on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border to screen people especially those below the age of 5 years coming from the neighboring state.
