7 Men Steal Clothes from Dead Bodies in Crematoriums
Seven people have been arrested in Baghpat in western Uttar Pradesh for stealing clothes of the dead from crematoriums and burial grounds.
Baghpat district is in western Uttar Pradesh. At this time, there is an ever growing number of dead bodies in the middle of a deepening coronavirus crisis in the country. Seven people have been arrested from there, for stealing clothes of the dead from crematoria and burial grounds. During interrogation they admitted that they used to steal bedsheets, sarees, and clothes of the dead. The men used to give the clothes a good wash and then iron them. Then the men would again sell it using a Gwalior company's label. Police recovered items such as: 520 bedsheets, 127 kurtas, 52 white sarees and other pieces of clothing. The police also found that some clothing merchants from the area had made a deal with these men and paid them ? 300 for a day's loot.
Mr. Alok Singh a police officer said that of the seven arrested three are from the same family. These people have been stealing for the last 10 years. Since they have been arrested during the coronavirus crisis, other than stealing they will also be charged under the Epidemic Act. Earlier on Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh government further extended the state wide curfew till May 17 to cut the transmission of COVID-19.
