80% Food Packed in Plastic Bags Are Contaminated.
FSSAI introduces new regulations regarding the packaging of food.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India [FSSAI] conducted a survey. This survey showed that 80% of the food packed in coloured carry bags, 59% food in black carry bags and 29% of food in aluminium coated containers and sweet boxes were contaminated.
The food gets contaminated by the chemicals present in the plastic bags and the aluminium containers.
The FSSAI is going to issue new rules about how food should be packaged. These rule will not allow food to be packaged or stored in plastic bags, newspapers and recycled plastic.
FSSAI survey showed that food from small shops and vendors, failed FSSAI testing standards. It will be difficult to make sure these food outlets follow the rules. If the rules are followed, it will make sure the consumers get safe food.
All food businesses will have to follow these rules by 19 July,
