Afghanistan: 3 Copies of Guru Granth Sahib Flown From Kabul
Three copies of Guru Granth Sahib were flown to India from Kabul along with Indian citizens and 46 Afghan nationals as part of the government's evacuation efforts from Afghanistan.
A special Air Force flight flew the evacuees from the Afghanistan capital to Tajikistan's Dushanbe on Monday 23 August and landed in Delhi on 24 August. The flight carried 78 passengers, including 25 Indian citizens & 46 Afghan nationals that landed in New Delhi. The passengers on board the flight chanted ''Wahe Guru ki Khalsa, Wahe Guru ki Fateh'' for their safe evacuation. Three copies of the Sikh Holy scripture - Guru Granth Sahib were also flown to India on the same flight. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri walked barefoot on the aerobridge and received the books at the Delhi Airport on 24 August. The books were placed in a suitcase on top of which a white cloth had been placed. He along with two other individuals carried the books on their heads while chanting "Satnam Shri Waheguru".
Now news has emerged that 16 of the 78 people who returned to India on the flight from Afghanistan have tested positive for the coronavirus. Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, India has evacuated a total of 730 individuals.
