In 1996, the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan and implemented a strict Islamic Sharia Law in Afghanistan. They banned women from working, closed girls schools, music was forbidden and all forms of entertainment were banned as well. Then Al-Qaeda under the Leadership of Osama Bin Laden, attacked the 9/11 attacks in the USA which killed many americans. After these attacks US President George W Bush declared war on Afghanistan to catch and kill Osama Bin Laden.
The US-Afghan war has been going on for 20 years now. The US has spent almost $1 Trillion to fight the Taliban in Afghanistan. 2,400 US soldiers have died. Thousands of Aghan soldiers, civilians and Taliban fighters have lost their lives. Even after spending so much money over the years the US never stopped. But now after 20 years of fighting, the US and Taliban have signed a peace agreement. Zalmay Khalilzad was the USA’s negotiator and Taliban fighter Mullah Baradar was Afghanistan’s. The deal was signed in Qatar’s capital Doha.Leaders from a number of countries, including India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, witnessed the signing of the historic US-Taliban peace deal.
According to the deal,Afghanistan has also promised that it will make sure there are no terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan that will plan attacks on the USA. The Taliban has promised to initiate a dialogue with the Afghan government. Only if the Taliban fulfil all their promises mentioned in the deal, then all of the American army will be removed from Afghanistan in 14-months. The USA will release 5,000 Taliban prisoners and the Taliban will release 1,000 prisoners by March 10.Stopping the war in Afghanistan has been one of the most important promises made by Donald Trump during the election campaign. The deal between the US & taliban may be a big help to secure votes from US citizens to be elected as the President of the USA
