The CERT-India has issued an official high-severity security alert for various Apple products that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

After the Samsung Galaxy phone series, the CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) has issued an official high-severity security alert for various Apple products that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities. The CERT-In Advisory CIAD-2023-0047 stated “Apple products ranging from iPhones and iPads to Macs and Apple Watches are vulnerable to several security flaws. If not fixed, these vulnerabilities can be exploited by attackers.”

According to the advisory, the different Apple softwares that are vulnerable to attacks and hacks are:

- iOS: Versions prior to 17.2 and 16.7.3

- iPadOS: Versions prior to 17.2 and 16.7.3

- MacOS: Sonoma versions prior to 14.2, Ventura versions prior to 13.6.3, Monterey versions prior to 12.7.2

- Apple TvOS: Versions prior to 17.2

- Apple WatchOS: Versions prior to 10.2

- Safari: Versions prior to 17.2

The advisory also warned that cyber attackers and hackers can easily break into these Apple software which can give them access to:

- Steal your sensitive information including passwords, contacts, photos and financial data.

- Hijack your device and install malware in it.

- Launch denial-of-service (DoS) - shutting down of device or its network to make it inaccessible for the user.

- Bypass security restrictions and access security data.

- Gain complete control of the device and lock you out.

The ‘high-severity’ rating of CERT indicates the urgency of addressing the vulnerability issues promptly. Therefore, CERT has suggested Apple users to:

- Immediately update the software of all their Apple products.

- Avoid clicking on suspicious links and opening unknown attachments.

- Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication for additional security.
