Alcohol Banned on Goa Beaches

Goa bans alcohol on beaches and public places,

The Government of Goa has made changes to the Tourist Trade Act of Goa Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said that, now nobody will be allowed to carry bottles of alcohol or drink on the beaches or any tourist place in goa. Tourists who are caught will be made to pay a fine of Rs 2,000.

The Tourism Minister also said that any tourist who creates a public disturbance will also be fined. If a large group of tourists are misbehaving in public they will be fined Rs 10,000. Cooking in the open is also not allowed. He said that if a person does not pay the fine, he can even be arrested for 3 months.

President of the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), Savio Messias supported the change in the law. He said that the government needs to control the tourists behaviour. Mr Messias said that when Indian tourists go abroad they are always well behaved, but in goa they will spit, litter and misbehave.

He said that because of such behaviour many people avoid going to Goa. This affects tourism in the city.

Many people feel that the government should have banned alcohol in public places in Goa long back.

We will have to wait and watch how the tourists react to this law in the future.
