Aligarh Kachori Seller Earns Rs 60 lakh - 1 Cr
A Kachori seller in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh has a monthly income of Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
The shop, known as 'Mukesh Kachori', is located near Seema cinema hall in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh and is a favourite among the locals.Mukesh is the owner of the shop. He begins selling 'kachoris' and 'samosas' in the morning and continues through the day. There is always a long line of customers waiting outside his shop.
Mukesh was doing very well and he was very happy. Recently when someone lodged a complaint with the tax department.A team of tax inspectors sat at another shop near Mukesh Kachori and started keeping track of sales. They found that Mukesh was earning between Rs 60 lakhs to Rs 1 crore monthly and annually the number would have been ever higher.
The Income Tax Department has now sent Mukesh a notice. The IT department has said that Mukesh not registered his shop under GST and does not pay any taxes as well.Mukesh said that he was not aware about any of this. He has been running his shop for the past 12 years and no one had told me that these formalities were needed. He said that he was a simple man who sold ‘Kachoris’ and ‘Samosas’ for a living.
An official of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), who is investigating the case, said that Mukesh accepted his income and all the details of his expenditure on raw material, oil, LPG cylinders etc. The SIB official said that Mukesh will have to get a GST registration and also pay tax for one year.
It is compulsory for anyone having a turnover of Rs 40 lakhs and above to get a GST registration. A 5 per cent tax is levied on prepared food.
