Amanjot Kaur: The Carpenter’s Daughter Who Carved Her Own Destiny

From a carpenter’s workshop to the world stage Amanjot’s journey is powered by her father’s faith and sacrifice. She proves that dreams built with patience can carve history.

Amanjot Kaur’s journey from Mohali’s dusty lanes to the World Cup stage is a story of faith, sacrifice, and unshakable love. Her father, Bhupinder Singh, a carpenter, faced taunts for letting his daughter play cricket with boys. Yet, he never gave up. With his own hands, he carved her first bat with the same tool that would later shape her destiny.

Every day, Bhupinder travelled 120 kilometres so Amanjot could train, sacrificing his work and income. Her grandmother often walked her to the ground and waited through long hours of practice. Money was scarce if they bought a bat one month, gloves had to wait for the next but Amanjot stayed determined.

In 2014, coach Nagesh Gupta gave her a chance after she kept showing up to train, even when told there was no space. That perseverance made her one of India’s most fearless all-rounders.

Amanjot made a stunning T20I debut, scoring 41* and earning Player of the Match. But 2024 brought challenges: a back stress fracture and hand ligament injury sidelined her for months. Finding strength in spirituality, she made a powerful comeback with Mumbai Indians in the 2025 WPL.

At the 2025 Women’s World Cup, Amanjot made history by scoring 50+ runs batting at number 8 or lower and took the match-winning catch in the final. Her journey is a tribute to her father, who built not just bats but belief proving that greatness can rise from small homes filled with love and determination.
