In a shocking incident, on 19th May 2022, a man chopped off his penis in Assam under the influence of cannabis. Mohammed Sahajul Ali, a resident of Dekar village in Sonitpur district, smoked cannabis and in a state of psychosis, cut off his penis for the “greater good”. As per media reports, Ali not only consumes marijuana but also indulges in other hard drugs. In an interview with Guwahati Times, Ali explained the reason behind his drastic step and said he chopped off his penis to repent for his sins. According to Ali, smoking cannabis is considered a sin in his religion, but he cannot do without the psychoactive drug. He said, “A dangerous event is going to take place in 2022. I have been worrying for many years thinking about this. I started smoking weed. My religion doesn’t allow me to take weed. I chopped off my penis for the greater good and to repent my action. And If I do not die, I would like to repeat such an adventurous act.” He had an inhibition that the society would have alienated him and he would have been looked down by people due to the fact that he smokes Marijuana despite being a Muslim.
Ali further says that consuming cannabis feels like meditation to him. Talking to the media, Ali’s son mentioned that he is mentally unstable and he did such a bizarre thing out of fear of religion. Ali’s friend mentioned that he has been indulging in such strange scenarios for many years now, including one time in 2003 when he reportedly spent a night with a lion. This is not the first case of a man cutting off his penis after smoking marijuana. In February, too, a man in Thailand cut off his entire penis with a scissor after he smoked marijuana.
