Bengaluru Stampede: 11 killed, 50 Injured During RCB Celebrations

RCB’s IPL victory celebration in Bengaluru turned tragic as a massive stampede left 11 dead and over 50 injured due to poor crowd control.

ISH News recently covered RCB’s historic IPL 2025 win – their first-ever trophy in 18 years. But this proud moment has now turned into a heartbreaking tragedy.

On 4th June 2025, a celebration was organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. While the open-bus parade was cancelled, a celebration event was planned inside the stadium.

But the crowd outside went out of control. The stadium could hold only 35,000 people, but nearly 2 to 3 lakh fans gathered outside. By 3 PM, roads were blocked, mobile networks were weak, and a false rumour about free tickets at Gate No. 7 or 12 caused panic.

People started pushing, climbing fences, and breaking gates to enter. From 3:30 to 5 PM, fans forced their way in as gates were shut. This caused a stampede—many people were trampled, crushed, and fainted. Ambulances couldn’t reach on time due to heavy traffic. Some fans were seen carrying the injured on their shoulders. Rain made things worse.

At least 11 people died and over 50 were injured. Doctors treated people with head injuries and breathing problems. The police used lathis to control the crowd and clear the way for the team bus.

Inside the stadium, RCB’s Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar briefly addressed the crowd, and the team showed the trophy before the event was cut short. The team later said, “We are deeply sorry for the loss. The safety of our fans is most important.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident “heartbreaking.” Sachin Tendulkar also expressed sadness, saying, “My heart goes out to every affected family.”

BCCI called it “unfortunate” and IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal said they had no information about the event. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia added that better planning is needed for such large gatherings.

The Karnataka government admitted they expected only a slightly bigger crowd. CM Siddaramaiah faced criticism but said, “These things can happen anywhere,” and promised ?10 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased and a full investigation.

It is truly painful that innocent lives were lost even before the celebration could begin.
