BEST Bus Drivers on Strike for the 8th Day
The fight between BEST officials and the bus driver union continues.
The BEST bus drivers are on a strike for 8 days now. The BEST bus drivers are demanding an increase in salary and and also an increase in bonus.
25 lakh people who use the BEST buses everyday have been severely affected by this strike. More people have started using the Metro rail because of the strike. From January 8 to January 11 almost 5 lakh people have used the Metro each day. Commuters who live between Ghatkopar and Versova have no option but to use the Metro.
On Monday, the High Court asked to BEST officials and the Union to try to solve the matter otherwise, the court would interfere and issue the appropriate orders. The High Court told a state committee to submit a detailed report regarding the strike.
The Court said that, the strike is affecting the common man but the drivers who drive lakhs of commuters everyday must also be paid properly.
