Big Rule Changes in IPL 2026?

IPL 2026 introduces stricter rules on practice, player conduct, and match procedures to ensure better pitch protection, discipline, and fairness.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season will be played with several new rules introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). These changes are aimed at making the tournament more organised, fair, disciplined, and professional. 

Practice Rules:

  • No practice (including warm-ups) on match days.

  • Each team gets separate practice nets/pitches; sharing is not allowed.

  • Max 2 practice matches with BCCI approval, only on side wickets.

  • Night practice matches limited to 3.5 hours.

  • No practice on main square 4 days before first home match.

  • No open nets; strict schedules must be followed.

General Rules:

  • Avoid hitting balls at LED boards; no sitting in front of them.

  • No fitness drills on the main pitch on match days.

  • Players must travel via team bus (can move in batches).

  • Only players & approved staff allowed in restricted zones.

  • Max 12 staff members allowed on match days.

  • Family/friends restricted to designated areas.

Discipline & Match Rules:

  • Proper dress code for presentations (no sleeveless/slippers).

  • Jersey number changes must be informed 24 hrs prior.

  • Rule violations: warning → fines.

  • Orange/Purple Cap holders must wear caps for first 2 overs.

  • Ball replacement must be similar condition, with both teams informed.

  • Bowling team (2nd innings) gets 1 ball change after 10th over, only at over breaks.
