Big Win for BJP in 3 States, Congress Wins Telangana
Results of the 2023 state assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana were declared on 3rd December 2023 and the result has shocked the political experts.
As you all know, the 2023 assembly elections were conducted in 5 states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana. The elections ended on 30th November 2023 and the vote counting began on 3rd December 2023 at 8 am. The results of the elections are as followed:
Madhya Pradesh
In Madhya Pradesh, BJP won 163 seats out of a total of 230 and Congress won only 66. Majority needed to form a government is 116. The BJP government of MP has clearly impressed the voters in its last tenure and was able to swoop more votes than previous elections of 2018 when BJP won 109 seats and Congress 114.
Rajasthan
In Rajasthan, out of a total 199 seats, BJP won 115 seats, Congress won 70 seats, and other parties won 14 seats, making BJP a clear winner. Majority need is 101. 2018 elections when BJP had won only 73 seats and Congress 100 seats.
Telangana
In Telangana, Congress appeared as the clear winner by bagging 65 seats out of a total of 119. Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) was able to grab 39 seats while BJP only 8 and other parties only 7. Majority needed is 60. In the 2018 elections, BRS came to power by winning 88 seats while Congress grabbed only 19 seats.
Chhattisgarh
BJP has won 54 seats out of a total of 99 and defeated the ruling party of Congress which won only 35 seats this time. Majority needed is 46. Congress had won by landslide in Chhattisgarh in 2018 by grabbing 68 seats while BJP got only 15.
Mizoram
The result for the state of Mizoram is yet to be declared as Mizoram's vote counting was also initially scheduled on 3rd December 2023 but was postponed to 4th December 2023 because Sundays are of special significance for Mizoram as it is a Christian-majority state.
The election results of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana , and Chhattisgarh have shocked political experts and parties. After being in power for 18 long years, BJP is once again ready for another term in Madhya Pradesh. BJP has also won in Congress dominated states of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh but lost to Congress in Telangana. The state assembly elections are being considered as a crucial semi-final before the general elections that are scheduled to be held in less than six months.
