Bihar: Couple Gets Married on WhatsApp, Families Oppose Union

A Muzaffarpur teen claims to have married his girlfriend over WhatsApp with ‘Kabool hai’ messages, but families oppose the union, leading to police intervention.

In a bizarre incident in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, a Class 12 student has claimed to have married his girlfriend over WhatsApp, sparking a major dispute between their families. The boy and girl, both 12th-grade students, exchanged messages on WhatsApp where the boy sent "Kabool hai" (I accept) three times, and the girl responded similarly. They believed this exchange made them officially married.

The boy even showed police photos of them as a couple and their WhatsApp chats, including the "Kabool hai" messages. He also revealed that during their secret meetings, the girl applied sindoor (vermilion) as a sign of their marital bond. However, their families strongly opposed the relationship, citing differences in religious backgrounds and the couple's young age.

The boy’s family expressed concerns about his obsession with the girl, claiming it had caused him to distance himself from them and act irrationally. They approached the police for help. On 9th February 2025, the situation escalated when the boy created a scene at the police station, demanding to marry the girl at any cost.

Despite hours of counselling by the police, the boy remained adamant about his decision. The police are now waiting for formal complaints from both families to take legal action and are trying to mediate to resolve the situation peacefully.

This unusual case highlights the complexities of young love and the challenges families face in such situations.
