BJP MLA Says ‘Sanskars’ Will Stop Rapes
When asked about the increase in rapes in Uttar Pradesh, BJP MLA has said good values and a cultured environment for women would the ideal solution to reduce rapes.
A journalist asked BJP MLA Surendra Singh: “Why do you think rape cases continue even as people say this is Ram Rajya?" The MLA replied saying, “ I am a teacher along with being an MLA. Such incidents can be stopped only with Sanskar, not with Shasan or talwar. It's the duty of parents to imbibe good values in their daughters and bring them up in cultured environments. Sanskar and Sarkaar can make India beautiful, there is no other alternative. People are very angry over his advice that is targeted towards women. People are attacking the MLA on social media saying that Sanskar is important for men as well and men must be taught to respect women properly. The government must take strict action against all rapists.
The BJP MLA has been known for making controversial comments in the past. Last year, he had said that Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatma Gandhi "was not a terrorist" and he "committed a mistake". Earlier this year, he commented on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying she is a "cruel-hearted woman".
