BJP Mocks Rahul Gandhi Over Emergency Comment

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the Emergency imposed by the late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to '77 was a "mistake".

The Emergency had been imposed for 21 months, from 1975 to 1977, by Indira Gandhi. During that time, constitutional rights and freedom were suspended, the media was severely restricted and many opposition leaders were jailed. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi was in Wayanad, Kerala. On 3rd March he had a virtual interaction with renowned economist Kaushik Basu of Cornell University, United States. Rahul said that the Emergency imposed by his grandmother & late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was a mistake. But it is very different from what is currently happening in India during the BJP’s rule.

He said that the RSS and BJP party have a strong bond. Currently the BJP is filling all institutional posts with the RSS members. Even if BJP is defeated in elections, the RSS people will continue working  "we are not going to get rid of their people in the institutional structure," Gandhi also said that institutions operate independently. That independence is being attacked in India by the RSS. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar laughed when he heard Rahul Gandhi's comments on the BJP and the RSS. Javadekar said the RSS is an organisation that proudly spreads Hindu beliefs. Rahul Gandhi will never be able to understand it.
