BJP Shiv Sena Win Maharashtra Elections
The BJP-Sena alliance fell short of their 200 seat mark in the Maharashtra state assembly elections however they have still managed to secure a majority and will form the new government.
After the removal of Article 370 in J&K, these are the first elections in Maharashtra & Haryana. The BJP had aimed to win more than 200 seats out of the 288 seats so that no opposition party would have any power in the state assembly. However the results of the election though are in BJP’s favor it is still short of their original expectations. In 2014 the BJP had won 122 seats but this year BJP won 105 seats.In 2014 Shiv Sena had won 63 seats and this year they won 56 seats.
Both BJP and Shiv Sena had won less seats this time. The BJP & Sena have won a total of 161 seats this is more than half of the total seats. This because the NCP won 54 seats. Last year NCP had just won 41 seats. The Congress won 44 seats.Since the results were announced yesterday, the Shiv Sena has been demanding a 50-50 share in the government. They wanted to have a BJP CM for 2.5 years and a Shiv Sena CM for 2.5 years. At a press conference Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray said that, the sena wanted more seats but they accepted less seats. But now they want a 50-50 share in the government. PM Modi announced that Devendra Fadnavis will be the CM for full year years. It looks like the BJP will not compromise there will be a lot of negotiations in the next week.
