The last two days there has been a lot of news about Jammu & Kashmir and Article 35A & Article 370. What is Article 35A? These laws gives the people of J&K special rights in matters of land and jobs. According to the law, only permanent residents of J&K are allowed to own land in J&K. Citizens of India can not buy land in J&K. These laws give special rights to the people of J&K for jobs in the J&K state government. There have been rumours that these laws are going to be scrapped by the Indian government and they have already started working on it since before the elections. During the elections the BJP had many promises in their Manifesto. Removing triple talaq and the Article 34A & Article 370 were one of them. After the BJP won the election, they recently banned triple Talaq and they are working very hard to live up to their promises and remove these special preferences given to J&K.
J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday said that the government will not make any decision in secret. All decisions will be made in the Parliament. The last two days, people in J&K have been very worried. On the weekend people started stocking up on vegetables, food and petrol. Now a complete curfew has been imposed in J&K. Schools and colleges are shut. The internet and telephone services have been disconnected as well. Extra forces of the Indian army have been called to J&K to help manage the situation. The BJP government has said that they are doing this as there is an increase in terrorists. Officials are extremely tight lipped about this and are giving no information.
The Cabinet Ministers are meeting today to decide the future of J&K. Ex-CM of J&K Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti and the People’s Conference Chief Sajad Lone were all placed under house arrest. The leaders have told the people of J&K to be prepared to fight if the laws were removed. The situation in extremely tense right now. The BJP wants to remove these laws because if the laws are removed, J&K can be a part of India and it will help J&K develop. Because of such laws, J&K is not developing.
