Blast At Sufi Shrine in Lahore

A bomb denoted on the morning of 8th May, outside a Sufi Shrine in Lahore, Pakistan. This incident occurs as Muslims begin their holy month of Ramzan

On 8th May, at 08:44 (local time) an explosion occurred near the Data Darbar Sufi Shrine, one of the oldest Sufi shrines in South Asia.

The Shrine was built in the 11th century. It is considered to be one of the most sacred places in Lahore. Hundreds of people from the Sunni and Shia traditions of Islam visit this shrine every year.

In the recent years, Pakistan has shut down a number of extremist groups.

Though the security in the country has improved, militants who oppose the government, still attack the country.

The police have described this blast as a suicide attack. The Hizbul Ahrar is a part of the Pakistani Taliban.

5 police officers have been killed

The attacks happen as Pakistani Muslims mark the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Pakistani security forces are still carrying out investigations.

Syed Mubashir Hussain, a spokesman for the Lahore police said that the main target was the police. The attack left many dead and dozens of policemen and civilians injured.

Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the attack. In 2010 too many died in two suicide blasts in an attack at the same place.
