Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has started an attack on coronavirus vaccines by suggesting that the vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech could turn people into crocodiles or bearded ladies.
Bolsonaro said on 17th December, “In the Pfizer contract it is very clear: ‘We are not responsible for any side effects.’ If you turn into a crocodile, it’s your problem. If you become superhuman, if a woman starts to grow a beard or if a man starts to speak with a female voice, they will not have anything to do with it.”
The vaccine has been undergoing tests in Brazil for weeks and is already being used in the United States and United Kingdom.
When launching the immunization campaign on 16th December, Bolsonaro also said it would be free but not compulsory. But the Supreme Court on 17th December ruled that the vaccine was obligatory (compulsory) but could not be “forced” on people.
Bolsonaro said that once a vaccine has been certified it will be available for everyone that wants it. “But me, I won’t get vaccinated.”
