China’s Tallest Building Freezes Amid a Cold Wave

A startling video capturing the Shanghai Tower, China's tallest and the world's third-tallest building, enveloped in frost and ice has surfaced online, sparking concerns reminiscent of scenes from apocalyptic movies.
The Shanghai Tower, towering at a height of 632 meters (2073 feet) with 128 floors, boasts a range of facilities including offices, hotels, commercial spaces, and sightseeing attractions. However, on 23rd February 2024, footage showing the top of the skyscraper frozen amid a cold wave sent shockwaves across social media platforms.
Reports indicate that Shanghai was in the grip of a severe cold wave, with temperatures plummeting to -5°C on the building's rooftop. The combination of low temperatures and high humidity led to the formation of a thick layer of frost on the exterior facade of the Shanghai Tower.
In response to the wintry conditions, the management team of the Shanghai Tower issued warnings about the risk of falling snow and icicles, prompting the closure of unsheltered and outdoor areas for visitors.
Just three days later, on 26th February 2024, citizens once again observed the outer walls of the Shanghai Tower's rooftop adorned with snow and ice, further emphasizing the chilling impact of the cold wave.
As temperatures began to rise, the ice naturally melted away, alleviating concerns about the building's safety. However, the eerie spectacle left many pondering the resilience of modern structures in the face of extreme weather events.
