Chip-Enabled e-Passports Coming Soon

New Foreign minister, S Jaishankar has announced that India will soon be having new chip-enabled passports with advanced security features.

New Foreign minister, S Jaishankar has announced that India will soon be having new chip-enabled passports with advanced security features.He also announced that they plan to open more Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) offices to help all Indian’s to get a passport. Currently there are 505 PSKs in the country. The ministry has said one crore passports are issued every year.

The common man of the country now has a Passport Seva Kendra near his residence and does not have to travel very far. Last year the Ministry of External Affairs launched the M-Passport Seva Mobile App and "passport from anywhere" scheme. They also made it easier for children of divorced parents to get a passport. Mr Jaishankhar said they hope to start issuing these e-passports with advanced security features. These are already being used by other countries. These passports make online check-ins and other features more accessible at airports.

Mr Jaishankhar also gave awards to the best performing passport office with Jalandar wining and Cochin and Coimbatore coming second and third respectively.
