World Disability Day is on 3rd December 2019. National Centre Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) in partnership with National Association of the Deaf (NAD) have organized a “Walk to Freedom”. It will be held at the India Gate, Amar Jyoti Jawan in New Delhi on 3rd December 2019, Tuesday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. They want all disabled people and Deaf people to come and demand three points from the government.
-
Indian Sign Language (ISL) to be added the amendment in the Constitution of India.
-
In India, 75% of of People with Disabilities have not educated and there are no educational facilities for them. Only 25% of the people with disabilities are educated. It is worse for Deaf individuals. There are no accessible educational facilities for them and 98% of Deaf persons are not at all educated. Only 2% of Deaf persons are educated. Deaf students are not taught Sign Language because teachers do not know sign language and focus on oralism. We demand the Govt. for equal and accessible education for all Deaf persons and PWDs.

People with Disability and the NAD had a meeting and created a proposal for the 2021 Census of India. This proposal included all the 21 types of disabilities mentioned in the RPWD Act 2016. They then gave it to the census of India but it was rejected. They have even demanded to be part of the census committee.
NCPEDP and NAD invites deaf, deaf leaders & deaf senior members from each of your deaf associations, deaf clubs, deaf sports, deaf women associations, deaf organisations, deaf institutions and disabled friends to come to delhi and fight for these demands.
They are hoping for more than 10,000 people so that the government hears our demands and starts to do things.
