Daughter of Rickshaw Driver Crowned Miss India Runner Up
Manya Singh, daughter of an autorickshaw driver from Uttar Pradesh was crowned Miss India 2020 Runner-up. See the video to know about her life struggles.
The Miss India pageant is organised by Femina. The Femina Miss India 2020 competition was held on 10th February 2021, at an event in Mumbai. Manasa Varanasi, an engineer from Telangana was crowned Miss India World 2020. Haryana’s Manika Sheokand became Miss Grand India 2020. Manya Singh was crowned Miss India 2020 Runner-up.
Manya is the daughter of a rickshaw driver from Uttar Pradesh. Manya had earlier opened up about the struggles she faced in her life. She said that she hoped to inspire others by talking about her journey in a post shared by the official Instagram handle of Miss India in December 2020, Manya had said, "My blood, sweat, and tears have amalgamated into courage to pursue my dreams.”
Manya grew up in tough circumstances, spending nights without food or sleep and walking miles just to save a few rupees. She yearned for books but luck was not in her favour. All the clothes were hand-me-downs. Her parents mortgaged whatever little jewellery they had to pay Manya's exam fee. She was doted on by her mother. She won the Best Student award during her HSC. She has struggled a lot in life till date. She was not able to pay her school fees, not able to afford books and was neglected by her classmates for being an auto driver's daughter. She studied during the day, washed dishes in the evening and worked at a call centre at night. She walked hours to reach places so I could save the rickshaw fare. Manya completed her graduation from Thakur College.
She said, "I am here at the VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 stage to uplift my father, my mother, and my young brother. Also to show the world that all is possible if you are committed to yourself and your dreams." The Miss India organisation thanked Manya for "sharing her story of struggle and hard work" and hailed her as an inspiration to others.
