Delhi Becomes World’s Most Polluted City

Yesterday on 3rd November 2019, there was a thick grey smog all over Delhi. People were unable to step out of their homes because the air was stinging their eyes and their nose. Many had People felt as if something was poisonous was burning outside. This is the worst case of air pollution in Delhi. Earlier a similar case of air pollution occurred in November 2016 and November 2017. However this time it is even worse. Yesterday afternoon, the air pollution levels in Delhi were the highest in the world. The air was extremely polluted.
The Delhi Government has blamed the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana. In Punjab & Haryana after farmers harvesting the crops, burn the land and the remaining crops so that they can plant new crops. This helps to make the soil fertile and kills pests again and helps to grow more grains. However this causes a lot of air pollution. The Delhi Government said that the air pollution in Delhi is because of this. The smoke has mixed with the air causing a thick smog. Plus the burning of crackers on Diwali made the situation worse.
The Delhi government has said that schools will remain shut till 5th November. They have said all construction will be banned till tuesday, Crackers will be completely banned. The government till now has not taken any strong decision to control pollution. UP Minister Sunil Bharala suggested that the government should do a 'yajna' to impress the Hindu Lord Indra so that air pollution reduces in Delhi. While the government is blaming each other and thinking of weird ideas, we need to protect ourselves. Stay indoors as much as you can. Don’t leave the house without a mask. Drink plenty of water as it flushes out pollutants. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Avoid junk food, and quit smoking.
