Two months ago violence broke out inside Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia University. This video is the CCTV footage that shows cops barging into the library and beating students with batons. In the video, cops, dressed in riot gear were seen entering the Jamia university's library and beating students who were peacefully reading. Seeing them, a couple of students ran for cover. The 49-second-clip video was Released byJamia Coordination Committee and everyone was very angry with the Delhi Police.
As soon as the video surfaced, Delhi Police was berated and #ShameOnDelhiPolice remained a top trend on Twitter. Intellectuals, journalists, and politicians condemned the action in strong words. However, some wondered why the library was largely vacant. The fact that one of the "students" who was allegedly thrashed was hiding his face with a handkerchief also raised suspicions. Was he really a student?
In December, when Jamia students took out a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) the Delhi police entered the college and lathi-charged students, and took over 30 in detention. But they said they did not enter the library. Now this video has surfaced.
