In a heart-wrenching turn of events, two separate incidents of fire outbreaks have left families shattered and communities mourning in New Delhi and Rajkot. The fires, suspected to have been triggered by short circuits, engulfed establishments ill-equipped to handle such emergencies.
On the night of May 25, 2024, tragedy struck the Baby Care New Born Hospital in Vivek Vihar, New Delhi. A devastating fire, ignited by a short circuit, led to explosions in oxygen cylinders, causing flames to rapidly spread throughout the hospital. Despite the valiant efforts of local residents and firefighters, seven newborn babies lost their lives, while five others sustained severe injuries.
The hospital, operating with an expired license and lacking essential safety measures, housed more oxygen cylinders and beds than legally permitted. Shockingly, it had no fire extinguishers, emergency exits, or qualified staff for neonatal care.
Authorities swiftly arrested Dr. Akash Singh, the doctor on duty, and Naveen Khichi, the hospital owner, who attempted to evade capture. Khichi, a repeat offender with a prior criminal case, now faces justice for his negligence.
Simultaneously, tragedy unfolded in Rajkot, Gujarat, at the TRP game zone, where a massive fire erupted due to a suspected short circuit. The temporary structure, lacking necessary clearances and safety protocols, became a death trap for patrons.
The fire claimed the lives of thirty-three individuals, including nine children and a newlywed couple. The game zone, operating without proper licenses and with inadequate exits, intensified the catastrophe. Additionally, the presence of large quantities of fuel further exacerbated the situation.
Authorities swiftly apprehended the three partner owners and the manager of the game zone, who now face legal action for their recklessness.
In response to these tragic events, national leaders including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed their condolences to the bereaved families. PM Modi announced compensation for the victims' families, while Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj pledged increased scrutiny of hospitals across the city.
