Details of STEM Scholarship for Students with Disabilities
The Government of India offers a tuition fee scholarship for 100% Blind and Deaf students in STEM from class 9th to 12th.
Education plays an important role in the socio-economic empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
Keeping this in mind, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India has several scholarship schemes for children with disabilities.
One such scheme is “Reimbursement of tuition fee for 100% Blind & 100% Deaf (without cochlear implant) students pursuing STEM subjects from class 9th to 12th.
Eligibility criteria:

Only for Indian nationals.

100% Blind & 100% Deaf (without cochlear implant) students pursuing STEM subjects from class 9th to 12th.

Maximum annual family Income upto 8 Lakhs from all sources

Maximum 1000 students can be considered for reimbursement of tuition fee in a certain Financial Year.

Not availing any other scholarship/stipend

Not more than two children with disabilities of the same parents will be entitled to receive benefits of this scheme. In case the second child is a twin, the fee reimbursement under the schemes will be admissible to the twin.

Fee reimbursement for studying in any STEM class (9th to 12th) will be available for only one year. If a student has to repeat a class, she/he would not get fee reimbursement for that class.
Extent of Financial Assistance

Rs. 1.5 Lakh or actual whichever is less per year per student.

Financial assistance will be provided with approval of the Governing Body of National Fund in two equal installments to the concerned NIs/CRCs (a) 50% on confirmation of admission (b) Remaining 50% fee will be released after completion of mid-term examination.
Documents Required

Disability Certificate issued by the appropriate authority/UDID Card/Enrollment Number

Income Certificate issued by competent authority

School ID or Bona fide certificate.

Class 8, 9, 10, or 11 mark sheets (as applicable).

Copy of the affiliation letter of the School.

Self declaration regarding not availing any other scholarship/stipend for the same course
How to Apply
Application in the prescribed format along with the all the requisite information/documents may be submitted to any of the National Institute / Composite Regional Centre (CRC) under administrative control of DEPwD
The last declaration also mentions that in case any information / documents are found incorrect / forged at
at any stage, the applicant shall return the entire amount with a 10% rate of interest.
