Dhoni & Raina Retire From International Cricket
Legendary cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his trusted lieutenant Suresh Raina have both announced their retirement from International cricket.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former Indian Cricket Captain retired from Test cricket at the end of 2014. He last played for India in an International match in the semi-final loss to New Zealand in the 2019 ICC World Cup. After playing for India for 15 years, on 15th August, Dhoni announced his retirement to his fans in his trademark Dhoni style on social media. Dhoni announced his retirement through a video on Instagram, and its caption read, “Thanks – Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”His fans across India and the world were shocked and extremely sad by his decision. It was under Dhoni’s captaincy that India managed to win the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India then won the ODI World Cup in 2011 and also the Champions Trophy in 2013. Because of Dhoni India became one of the best International cricket teams in the world. He has played 350 ODIs and has secured 10,773 runs. He has scored 10 centuries and 73 half-centuries.
Following Dhoni his trusted lieutenant during his reign as India’s captain, Suresh Raina too
announced his retirement from International Cricket. The left handed batsman was part of the team that won the 2011 ICC World Cup. He played a pivotal role in India’s triumph in the tournament. He wrote on his Instagram page, “It was nothing but lovely playing with you, @mahi7781. With my heart full of
pride, I choose to join you in this journey. Thank you India. Jai Hind!” Suresh Raina aged 33 made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2005. He scored 5,615 runs from 226 ODIs
with an average of 35.3. He has scored 36 fifties and five centuries.
