Doctor & Healthcare Workers Assaulted in India

Doctors & healthcare workers across India are being assaulted and mistreated due to the spread of COVID-19. Watch our latest video for all the details.

On 1st April, In Indore, Madhya Pradesh five-member team of the health department which included three doctors went to theTat Patti Bakhal area to screen people for the coronavirus. Two cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the area and 54 families have been quarantined.However the people staying there attacked these health officials and pelted them with stones. Two of the doctors suffered injuries to their legs. One of the doctors who were injured said, “The moment we started enquiring about a particular person’s health, people began protesting and were joined by others who resorted to pelting stones,”A few people have been arrested by the police for this. 

This is not the only place where doctors are being assaulted. 

In Hyderabad, a doctor was allegedly attacked by the family members of a Covid-19 patient who died.In Bihar, Police and medical personnel were attacked by locals in Munger town when they visited a locality to collect samples from people suspected to have contracted coronavirus.In Bengaluru, Asha workers - women who provide health care facilities to create awareness - they were conducting a coronavirus survey about people who had attended the Nizamuddin programme in Delhi. These female workers were assaulted by the public. 

One of them said, "They snatched our bags and mobile phones. They did not let us make a phone call. I have been working for the past five years but never ever faced a situation like this” A similar incident occurred in Mumbai as well. It is extremely upsetting in such times the brave medical workers are risking their lives to keep Indian citizens safe, these medical workers are being assaulted and beaten up.
