Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in Hyderabad, governments across India have begun adopting fuel-saving and austerity measures.

The Prime Minister himself was seen travelling in a two-car convoy in Delhi, much smaller than his usual 12–15 vehicle convoy. The central government also raised import duty on gold and silver from 6% to 15% to protect foreign exchange reserves.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also reduced his convoy size.

Several states followed suit:

Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, proposed work-from-home options, flexible office timings, a weekly No Vehicle Day, and a “Visit My State” tourism campaign.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis restricted ministers from using aircraft without special approval.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta encouraged carpooling and reduced official vehicle use.
Gujarat leaders, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, cut convoy sizes and introduced “Chemical Engine Free Day” in universities.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also reduced convoy sizes and limited unnecessary vehicle use.

These coordinated steps reflect a nationwide push to conserve fuel and reduce government spending amid growing economic and global pressures.
