Tests conducted by the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) in Hong Kong revealed the presence of a pesticide called ethylene oxide in samples of these spices. Ethylene oxide, classified as a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, poses serious health risks, including cancer. While no immediate danger is posed by consuming food with low levels of this pesticide, long-term exposure can lead to health issues. The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has instructed consumers to avoid Indian spices for now. Everest's Fish Curry Masala has been recalled by its importer in Singapore. This isn't the first time Indian spice products have faced scrutiny abroad. Last year, the US FDA requested Everest Food Products to recall certain items due to Salmonella contamination. As investigations continue, consumers are advised to steer clear of the implicated products and seek medical advice if consumed.
