Father Kills 9-Year-Old Daughter With a Wood-Cutter For Changing Her and Step-Brother’s Marksheet

A 9-year-old girl in Pune was allegedly murdered by her father after a dispute over school rankings, in a case that has shocked the entire country.

A deeply disturbing incident from Pune, Maharashtra, has shocked the nation.

Nine-year-old Anamika Chavan, a Class 3 student, was allegedly killed by her father, Shantaram Chavan, after a dispute over school rankings.

Anamika had secured second rank in her class, while her stepbrother stood first. After being teased by family members, she reportedly altered both marksheets to show herself as first.

Enraged, Shantaram allegedly attacked the child with a wood-cutting machine inside their home on 10 May, killing her on the spot.

To hide the crime, he is accused of wrapping her body in a sari and setting the house on fire to make the death appear accidental.

Police became suspicious during the investigation and uncovered evidence that the fire was deliberately started after the murder.

Shantaram has been arrested for murder, while his wife, Chinki Bhonsle, was also arrested for allegedly helping him destroy evidence and failing to inform the police.

The tragic case has left the local community stunned, raising painful questions about how pressure over school performance could lead to such a horrific crime.
