Female Ex-Classmates Dead in Dharwad Road Accident
A group of female ex-classmates on their way to Goa, met with a dangerous accident resulting in the death of many.
A group of 17 female Students of the 1989 batch from Saint Paul's School at Davangere - all of them were in their mid-40- were travelling to Goa to discuss their alumni programm as a part of the 75th year celebration of the school, which was supposed to be held this year. The group had planned a three-day stay in Goa and two of them had taken their daughters along.The group were on the way to pick up another classmate from Dharwad.
An officer from Dharwad Rural Police said, “On 15th January at 3:00am, the minibus had left Davengere at around 3 am. When it reached near Ittigatti cross, located about 8 km from Dharwad city, at around 7 am, it collided with a topper-lorry coming from the opposite direction,” n11 women passed away in the accident. Many of them were injured. According to the police, 2 of the injured are in a critical state. However, this number is not confirmed yet. One of the women passed away was a doctor. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express grief over the incident. Police officials said, A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Sister Bernie of St Paul's convent condoled the death of their students and said that a prayer was held to remember the departed souls. Senior teacher of the school, Manjula, who remembers them, could not be consoled. She said that she especially remembered the services of Dr Veena Prakash, who worked as a well-known Gynaecologist at Davangere city. Recollecting Veena's school days, she said, "Veena was a good sportsperson who actively took part in school activities even 30 years after she had left. She had also sponsored many events and also interacted with the students of the school and motivated them to study well."
