A video of a strange fire in a park has gone viral with millions of views on social media. The strange fire burns away only a white film on the ground, without touching the trees and grass. This video is from Spain and was first shared on Facebook by an NGO named Club De Montana Calahorra. According to local news, the video was recorded at a park in Calahorra.
The white 'film/layer' covering the whole ground seeds from the tree is called poplar. Poplar is a thin tree with soft wood. In the video it is seen that the fire burns away the poplar film / layer. The green grass underneath can be then seen. Surprisingly it does not burn any of the trees or the grass. Even the bench in the park is not burnt by the fire. The video was posted on Facebook on 7th May. In four days the video has been viewed over 92,000 times. It was also shared on Reddit and Twitter. On Twitter it had 6.8 million views, along with thousands of amazed comments.
But Elisa Garrido, Mayor of Calahorra clarified, that these fires are dangerous and spread quickly. In this fire, according to local reports, there is no injury or property damage. The firefighters intervened and the fire was extinguished quickly. Authorities say the fire was not started by them but must have been due to a human mistake like a cigarette butt or bonfire.
