Former President Pranab Mukherjee Passes Away

84-year-old Former President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to hospital on 10 th August and had surgery the same day for the removal of a clot in the brain. He had tested positive for Covid -19 in hospital and went into a coma after surgery. According to doctors, he developed a lung infection and a renal dysfunction since the past few days. On 31 st August morning, the RR Hospital in Delhi had reported a decline in Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s health. The infection in his lungs began spreading throughout his body. His son Abhijit Mukherjee tweeted, “With a Heavy Heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri Pranab Mukherjee has just passed away in spite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital and prayers from people throughout India! I thank all of you.”The Central Government has announced seven days of state mourning for the former President.
He was born in 1935 in Mirat, a village in Bengal. Mukherjee was very well educated and had a degree in Political Science, history as well as Law degree from University of Calcutta. His political career started in 1969. That time he was noticed by Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Indira made him Rajya Sabha member. Mr. Mukherjee was Minister of Finance, Defence and External Affairs Minister and then he became India’s President. He was President of India from 2012 to 2017.
