From Feroz Shah Kotla to Arun Jaitley Stadium
The world famous Feroz Shah Kotla stadium will now be renamed after the late politician and Arun Jaitley.
The famous BJP leader and former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley recently passed away. His death is a big loss to the country. The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi is one of the oldest grounds in India. It was established in 1883. It’s being used for matches for more than 100 years. Days after Jaitley’s death the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) renamed the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium to Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The DDCA decided to name the stadium after Arun Jaitley because he has worked very hard to develop cricket Delhi. He was also the President of DDCA and also the vice-president of the BCCI. DDCA president Rajat Sharma said: "It was Arun Jaitley's support and encouragement that players like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Rishabh Pant and many others could play and make India proud."Apart from being a politician, Jaitley loved watching cricket. He had been involved in the DDCA for a very long time. He was the President for 14 years. He was responsible for modernising the stadium. He increased the capacity of the stadium to accommodate more fans. He built locker rooms for cricketers and other cricketing facilities which were of international quality. The renaming of the stadium will take place on 12th September. At this function there will be a stand specially named after Indian captain Virat Kohli. The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium is near the Kotla Fort. The Kotla Fort was built by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq a king during the Mughal rule.
This is why they named the stadium Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. When news regarding the change of name came out, everyone thought it was named after Feroz Khan the Bollywood.
