In a daring act, a teenage girl in Mumbai jumped off a moving BEST bus. Sanjana Bagul aged 19 works as a telecaller at a private company, and was on her way to work when the incident occurred. She usually takes the BEST bus 332 from Andheri (east) to travel to Kurla (west). Around 9.45 am on 30th October, Friday, the bus was overcrowded. Accused Mukesh Gaikwad followed Sanjana Bagul in the crowded bus and flicked her chain. She realized something was wrong and when she checked her chain around the neck, she realized that it was missing. She turned around and spotted a man (Mukesh Gaikwad) trying to jump off the moving bus. She followed him, jumped out the moving bus and screamed aloud to alert passersby.

A traffic police constable who was on duty at Chakala signal chased and caught Gaikwad from the rickshaw that he had just taken but had got caught up in traffic. Sanjana told The Times of India (TOI), “The bus was moving slowly as it crossed the signal and I dared to jump on noticing the thief running away with my chain worth Rs 40,000 that was purchased with my hard-earned money.” The police said the chain was recovered from Mukesh Gaikwad. Gaikwad is unemployed and the police are collecting information to know the number of offences he could have committed by stealing from people in crowded public transport. He has been remanded in custody.
