Govt to Revoke Aatish Taseer’s OCI Card
Author and journalist Aatish Taseer’s inflammatory article regarding PM Modi has led to the revocation of his OCI card by the Indian government.
The Narendra Modi government has given a notice to author and journalist Aatish Taseer and the notice said that the Indian government will mostly cancel his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. An OCI card is given to a foreign citizen of Indian origin. This card gives them the right to enter India multiple times and life-long visa that allows them to visit India at any time, for any duration and for any work.They also have all the rights that an NRI has. Astish wrote an article in 5 Time magazine on 20 May 2019.In the article he called PM Modi ‘Divider-in-Chief’ because of Modi’s habit of dividing people and not maintaining unity in the country.
He wrote about PM Modi's mistakes during his first term as Prime Minister.Since then the Indian government has not been very happy with Aatish. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is saying that Aatish had not followed the law while applying for OCI card. The Indian government said that he hid the fact that his father was from Pakistani. This is why they want to cancel his OCI card. The home ministry said Taseer was given the opportunity to object but Aatish did not. However according to Aatish, when he was given notice he was only given 24 hours to reply. He sent a reply but after that the ministry did not respond.
