Gujarat Cities Ban Openly Selling Non-Veg Foo
The Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled civic bodies in Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Junagadh in Gujarat have banned open sale of non veg items.
The Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled civic bodies in Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Junagadh in Gujarat have issued orders saying roadside stalls cannot openly sell non-veg food items, citing complaints of foul smell and cruelty to animals. The civic bodies have directed the vendors to either stop selling non-vegetarian food items in their joints or have them covered so that people cannot see it while passing on the roads or walking on footpaths. The civic body has launched a drive to penalise street hawkers selling non-vegetarian food openly. The direction will also apply to carts selling egg preparations.
Hitendra Patel, chairman of the standing committee said, “For years people sold non-veg food by openly displaying it but the time has come to stop for religious reasons.” However no official order has been issued but the municipality said whenever there is a specific complaint, strict punishment will be given.
