Hardik Patel's Election Plans Go Awry
Patidar community leader Hardik Patel plans to participate in the Lok Sabha Election in Gujarat go awry, as the Gujarat High Court refuses his appeal for stay order.
Leader of the Patidar community in Gujarat, 25 year old Hardik Patel has been fighting for OBC status for his community since 2015. In February 2019, he announced his plans to join politics. Hardik Patel recently joined the Congress party. He really wanted to contest the Lok Sabha Elections in Gujarat.
As per the Representation of the People Act, 1951, a person can not take part in the Elections if there is any criminal case pending against him. He has several court cases and 17 FIRs registered against him. In July 2018, he was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for rioting and arson in the 2015 Patidar quota protest in Gujarat. In August 2018, He was granted bail.
Recently, He filed an appeal in the Gujarat High Court asking for a stay order. The Gujarat High Court refused to give his appeal. Without the stay order he will not be able to take part in the elections. 4th April is the last date for the candidates for filing their nominations for the elections in Gujarat.
Hardik Patel has a few days to challenge the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court (SC). He will request the SC for an urgent hearing. He said that he will not give up easily and he will fight for justice. Hardik Patel said that he will work hard to fight the BJP party in India.
