Heavy Rains Disrupts Life In Mumbai
Continuous heavy rains in Mumbai, brought the city to a complete standstill leaving lakhs of commuters stranded.
Six hours of heavy rain on Wednesday completely stopped Mumbai. Due to the heavy rains the Mithi river was overflowing and there was high tide as well. 500 residents of Kranti Nagar in Kurla, and 900 from Marol in Andheri (E) were evacuated to a safe place by the fire brigade and the NDRF. Western, Central and Harbour lines were not working due to heavy floods and rains. Only one train running every 30 minutes. Passengers waited two to four hours in crowded stations. Some passengers were even stuck in the trains are decided to start walking on tracks to reach their destination. 4,500 passengers were rescued from stranded trains.
Lakhs of people were stuck in offices and stations all over mumbai. Services resumed on WR in the evening, prompting dangerous crowds fighting to get on the train. People were very angry. Some passengers even protested at Byculla CSMT station. Two BMC labourers who were working in Goregaon died due to the floods. A seven-year-old boy died after falling into an open gutter in Nallasopara.Navi Mumbai, Vasai, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan, Panvel, Thane and Alibag will continue to witness rains for the next 2-4 hours, after which the rains will get worse.
