The IPL 2021 auction was held yesterday on 18th February in Chennai. A total of 292 players were enlisted for the shortened auctions — 164 of them Indian and 125 overseas. A total of 57 players were bought, and Rs. 145.3 crore was spent at the mini-auction. South African all-rounder Chris Morris was a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Yesterday, RCB released him to Rajasthan Royals. RR paid Rs 16.25 crore for Morris. This is the most expensive signing in IPL. Earlier Singh was purchased by the Delhi Capitals for Rs 16 crore but Morris has broken his record. After Morris, the 2nd most expensive signing was that of Kyle Jamieson for Rs. 15 crore by RCB. Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell had kept his base price Rs. 2 crore. However, he was sold to RCB for a whopping Rs. 14.25 crore following an intense bidding war. J Richardson was signed by Punjab Kings for Rs 14 crore.
An Uncapped Player is a player that has played domestic cricket but has not represented India at international level. Capped Players are those that have represented their countries in international cricket. K Gowtham, an uncapped player who was part of the Punjab Kings, was signed by Chennai Super Kings for a whopping Rs. 9.25 crore. Even though he was an uncapped player he was signed for such a large sum. Arjun Tendulkar, the son of Sachin Tendulkar, was picked up by the Mumbai Indians for the first time at Rs 20 lakh.
