Horror At Home: Father Kills 11-Year-Old Twin Daughters
In a premeditated act of domestic horror, a paranoid and depressed father in Kanpur drugged and brutally murdered his 11-year-old twin daughters with a cleaver before surrendering to the police.
The vibrant life of a Kanpur home was shattered by a darkness that had been simmering for years. What began as a marriage in 2014 between Reshma and Shashi Mishra devolved into a nightmare of alcoholism, domestic violence, and a crushing, paranoid surveillance that turned their home into a prison of cameras.
Driven by grief over his mother’s death and fueled by a toxic cocktail of debt and depression, Shashi’s instability curdled into a lethal plan. On April 18, he brought home a ?500 cleaver and a bottle of sleeping pills—the tools for an unthinkable betrayal.
At 11:00 PM, after a final family dinner, the trap was set:
Shashi drugged his 11-year-old twins, Riddhi and Siddhi, slipping pills into their Around 2:30 AM, he targeted Riddhi first, fearing her strength. He strangled her before using the cleaver. In a haunting moment of "what if," Siddhi briefly woke to use the bathroom—passing her mother in the dark hallway—before returning to the room where her fate awaited.
After killing Siddhi, Shashi sat with the bodies for an hour in the silence before cold-bloodedly dialling 112 to surrender.
The horror peaked when Reshma, waking to the sound of police at the door, discovered her daughters on the floor. While their 6-year-old brother, Gannu, still asks when his sisters are coming home to play, Reshma is left staring at two neatly pressed school uniforms and pencils still resting on a study table.
Shashi admitted he had planned the murders multiple times but lacked the "courage" to take his own life. Today, he sits behind bars, while Reshma—shattered by the loss of her "strong girls"—demands the ultimate price: the death penalty.
"He does not deserve to live," she says, a widow to a man who became a monster.
