Hospital Power Cut Causes Deaths
The Rajaji hospital in Tamil Nadu faced a power outage on 7th May. This led to the death of 3 patients who were on ventilator.
Three people died at Government Rajaji Hospital in Tamil Nadu, due to a power cut. The families of those who died on 7th May say that the deaths were caused due to a power outage because of heavy rains across the district. They also said that the ventilators in the emergency wards were not functioning. They claim that the hospital management did not do enough to save the lives of the patients.
However, the hospital has denied the claims and said that after a power cut, the hospital had brought inbuilt batteries to save the remaining patients who were admitted in the emergency ward.K Vanitha, the Dean of Madurai Government Hospital, said that there was a power cut for an hour from 7 pm to 8 pm. She said that the patients, who passed away during the power cut, were already in critical condition and that one of the patients suffered a heart attack.
She said that a generator was started, but this stopped working after 20 minutes. She also added that the ventilators had a backup inbuilt battery, and the patients dying during the power cut was coincidental Tensions began after the deaths at the hospital on Tuesday as the families of those who lost their lives entered into a fight with the doctors. However, no official complaint has been filed in the matter.
