Hyderabad: Man Dies During Smile Enhancement Surgery
A 28-year-old man tragically loses his life following a smile enhancement surgery at a dental clinic, leading to allegations of negligence and a police investigation.
A smile enhancement (improvement) surgery, cost a man his life. A smile enhancement is the process of improving the appearance of the smile through cosmetic dentistry surgery and other procedures. 28-year-old Laxmi Narayana Vinjam went to FMS International Dental Clinic in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills at around 2.30 pm on 16th February 2024 for a smile-designing procedure. At around 4.30 pm, he was taken into the operation theatre and the procedure went on for almost two hours. However, concerns arose when Vinjam's condition deteriorated. At around 7 pm, the staff called his father, Rumulu Vinjam saying that his son had fainted during surgery and asked him to come to the clinic. Ramulu Vinjam said, "We rushed him to a nearby Apollo Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.” Ramulu Vinjam has alleged that Laxmi Narayan died of an anesthesia overdose. The devastated father added, “My son did not inform us of the surgery. He had no health issues, the doctors are responsible for his death.” K Venkateshwar Reddy, SHO (police officer) said, “Laxmi Narayana’s body has been sent for autopsy. His family filed a complaint and so a case has been filed against the clinic for negligence. We are checking the hospital records and security camera footage. Laxmi Narayana got engaged a week ago and he was to get married next month. FMS International, on its website, claims it is also one of the most awarded dental clinics in India since 2017 with more than 55 awards. NDTV reached out to the hospital management. However, a response is awaited.
