IAF Pilot Abhinandan Returns to India

On 1st February 60 hours after being captured by Pakistan, IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman returned to India. Abhinandan had to wait for one full day at the Wagah-Attari border because, the Pakistan government refused to accept India’s request to fly him to India in a special aircraft. He was made to record a video by Pakistan. He was made to praise Pakistan in the video. The Indian government said that Abhinandan was forced to make that video. He crossed the border at 9:25 pm. He was accompanied to the border by India’s air ambassador Thomas Kurien and director of Pakistan’s Foreign Office.

After his return to India Abhinandan had to undergo a complete medical check up at the [BOX 02 Army’s Research & Referral Hospital in Delhi.He has a rib fracture and many bruises on his back. Doctors say his has not suffered any permanent injuries.He is going through mental counselling as well to deal with all the stress.

Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa met Abhinandan. He told them all about his bad experience with the Pakistan military. Even after being physically and mentally harassed by Pakistan, Abhinandan told the doctors he can not wait to start flying again. The doctors said that once he is completely fit, he can start flying. He will be discharged on 5th March.
