India Approves Russia’s Sputnik V Vaccine
Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories announced that the first dose of Sputnik V vaccine was administered in Hyderabad on 14th May.
Sputnik V has been developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology which is part of the Russian Ministry of Health. Sputnik V is the third anti-COVID-19 vaccine to be approved in India after ‘COVAXIN’ and ‘Covishield’. Dr Reddy's Laboratories will be manufacturing the vaccine in India.
Dr. Reddy's Laboratories announced that One imported dose of the Russian anti-coronavirus vaccine - Sputnik V - has been priced at Rs. 995.40 in India. That price includes Rs. 948 basic cost and a 5% GST. However, the company said the vaccine price is expected to reduce once they start manufacturing the vaccine in India. It has already been administered to over 20 lakh people worldwide. The vaccine is said to be 91.6% effective.
The first consignment of 1.50 lakh doses of Sputnik V vaccine landed in India on May 1. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories announced that the first dose of Sputnik V vaccine was administered in Hyderabad on 14th May. Meanwhile Sputnik V official Twitter page said, “The second batch of Russia's Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V on Sunday, 16th May landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. On 16th May, Russian Ambassador to India Nikolay Kudashev said that there are plans to introduce the single-shot vaccine ‘Sputnik Light’ in India soon. It would increase the volume of vaccines available in the country.
