India Bans 59 Chinese Apps
The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, on June 29, banned 59 mobile apps, saying they are engaged in activities which are a threat to national security.
The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, on June 29, banned 59 mobile apps, saying they are engaged in activities which are "prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order. The list of apps included TikTok, Shein, UC Browser and others The IT Ministry said that it has received many complaints from various places. They also received many reports that apps available on Android & iOS were stealing the data of users and the government found that the servers of these apps are located outside of India. Since such Apps affect the Defence of India, the government needs to take urgent action. This is why the Apps were banned.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) welcomed the move saying, "This huge unprecedented step will go a long way in strengthening the 'Boycott China' campaign of CAIT." Among the apps, Tik Tok, Club Factory, Xiaomi, Cam Scanner, UC Browser are expected to suffer major losses because crores of people use it in India.
Sreedhar Prasad, e-commerce analyst said, "China had banned international Apps in China long back. They use a majority of Chinese Apps. Outside China, India is the largest market for Chinese Apps. Now that India has banned such Apps, it will have a huge impact on Chinese business. If other countries follow India and ban Chinese Apps, it will create a larger impact.Many people have become very used to using such Chinese apps. After the government decision to ban them, local Apps in India use it as an opportunity to make business and provide such services to the customers.
